I've been stalking the new Boston Whaler Dauntless models and noticed what looked to be a tackle storage sleeve mounted on the inside of the center console door. Even if it's not specifically for a couple tackle sleeves, I thought, "What a good idea location to add some storage without drilling and installing a separate cabinet." Any idea where I could find such a thing? I've searched on Google and haven't even come close. I really don't know the right term, which could be my downfall and why I turn to ContinuousWave. Here is the link. The photo I'm referring to is image 54 of 75 (under interior). Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm also open to what other people have done for tackle storage on their Dauntless. http://www.bostonwhaler.com/Page.aspx/pageId/29591/pmid/335554/180-Dauntless.aspx Cheers! |

I haven't find nothing close in the aftermarket from Google Images with the search terms "console door tackle box", "tray", "drawer" or "bin", but that should be easy to fabricate, out of aluminum, Starboard or Whaleboard. That's the one you're talking about, on the 180 Dauntless: Robalo make something similar on one of their boat: As is Mako: |

Saumon--thanks for the info. The part shown on the new Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS looks light and cheap--which is what I'm looking for. I think your suggestion will definitely be a very close second option. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. |

If you want to go the economical route, there's also several options. You could search your local hardware store for a suitable coated-wire cabinet door rack like this one, but you may find it difficult to find one that is deep enough: http://st.houzz.com/simgs/a44156ce01af9f38_4-4059/ kitchen-drawer-organizers.jpg Or any small plastic rectangular bin of the appropriate size that you could screw in place |

Those are also good points. I feel like I'm lacking ingenuity, but thanks for the recommendations. The KING Starboard isn't too expensive and would result in a nice piece. I think a major difference between the two options would be fit for the tackle boxes. KING Starboard would provide a far superior fit reducing rattling. Thanks again. I'll look up this thread come spring time when I get around to scrapping this together. Another item to think about to get me through winter and into spring on the water. |

They have them at fpmarine.com. Search: Plastics > Fishing Tackle Storage Lockers at the website. |

Or, anything that fits. I removed mine to increase bulk storage space in the console. |

Interested point Jefecinco - it will reduce bulk storage, but the deck lacks permanent fishing storage - I think this is the most ideal spot to add storage without cutting, drilling, etc. Whatever the "thing" is meant for, it's inspired me to add it to my 2001. I tried to convince the Mrs. that I wouldn't have to add this if we upgraded to a new(er) one - HA. Thanks all for the recommendations. |

That's a relative simple shape to form from sheet stock. I'm not sure which type of plastic sheet would be easy to heat and bend. Aluminum or steel sheet could also be bent on a brake. If you go to that same gallery of photos you referenced, you can go forward two photos and see a tackle tray holder mounted in the starboard side of the console. I have found this to work well, although the storage space is limited. If these have been installed as options by BW, I can't imagine that they are not available as parts. |

Available from West Marine: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/ sail-systems--built-in-tackle-boxes--P024_726_003_500 I just put the smaller of these two on my boat below the steering wheel. Handy for cellphones, wallets, car keys, etc. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/ sail-systems--console-glove-storage-box--P024_726_003_503 This company http://ssicustomplastics.com/products/ has lots of cool stuff and quality is great. |

The primary use to which I put the tackle box built into the console on my 190 Montauk is also for wallet, keys, telephone and such small stuff. Otherwise the box is only useful for storing artificial lures in the plastic boxes included. It is mounted on the starboard side of the console and would be awkward to use for tackle. Butch |
