Hello. I have a 1997 Johnson 2-HP outboard engine. I have recently replaced the fuel line, disassembled and re-installed the carburetor, replaced the spark plug, cleaned the fuel tank, [and used] fresh gasoline. I can pull the starter rope 15 times, remove the spark plug, and the plug will be dry. Why would I not be getting fuel in the cylinder? I removed the lower bowl on the carburetor and did have fuel there Any guidance on next steps?Aaron

Probably a clogged jet. They have to be tiny on an engine that small. |

If the carburetor is OK, don't overlook other items, such as low compression from a head gasket or piston problem, broken or bent reeds, or an air leak in the crankcase. |

Try squirting some starting fluid in the carb and see if it fires. It may remove the cobwebs if that's all it is. |

I dumped a little gas into the spark plug hole and was able to get it going. However, without that, no go. |

Based on that, I would start tracking the fuel system. If you have gas at the carb, most likely it,s either a stuck float or a clogged jet. |
