On a 1987 Newport, is the bow rail a solid one-piece rail or is it pieced together? If it's pieced, where are the joints? Thanks, Salty.

If there are joints between sections of a bow railing, the joints should be rather easily seen, unless the joints are concealed under the T-section clamps that join the horizontal rails to the vertical rails.

You can find plenty of images of the OEM railing set up for a Newport here. These are pics of the Newport I sold two years ago and the one featured on page 66 of Cetacea.

From the third to the last picture on the third page of Jeff's link it looks very much to me like the bow railing is one piece.

After clicking on the picture and holding down "Ctrl" and pressing "+" several times it enlarges the picture several times and shows the joint where the railing appears to pass through the stanchion joint (fitting) very well.
