Both of my pedestal seats [on a 1986 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 18] have stress cracks underneath at the brackets, and I need to replace them. [The cracking seats] have 8-holes [for attachment to the seat base], and I think they are probably Wise seats. Any suggestions on where to find a compatible seat or chair that will fit the existing pedestals? Will Springfield Yachtsman II fit? Thanks.

From my memory, I think the plastic molded pilot seats in a c.1986 Boston Whaler were probably made by Springfield. I don't know if the hole layout that is provided on the bottom of the plastic molded seats used by Boston Whaler is a universal or standard hole layout for all seats of that type. Usually you can find a dimensional drawing of a product that will show the location of mounting holes. You could compare the location of the holes in new seats' bottoms with your existing seats. Also, it might be possible to drill new holes in the pedestal seat mounting plate to match the location of holes in a new seat.

It is common that the original plastic molded seats will develop cracks. I have already replaced one seat. I was fortunate to get a used OEM seat in good condition from another fine classic Whaler owner (Joe Kriz) who had replaced the seats on his boat with newer and different seats. I see the replacement seat is beginning to develop a little crack, too. I guess I must be gaining too much weight.

There is no upper bound on how much a replacement seat can cost. Shop carefully. The Sprinfield YACHTSMAN II seat,

looks like a close match to the original seats from a c.1986 Boston Whaler.

Jim is correct, and I can add the following: Wise no longer makes an OEM replacement seat, however Springfield makes a very close OEM replacement, the Springfield YACHTSMAN II. Regardless of whether you have the original Wise or original Springfield base, the bolt hole pattern on the original seat slider/mount will fit the new Springfield seats. You remove the new aluminum base mount from the replacement Springfield seat and install the original sliding base mount to the replacement Springfield seat with the four bolts from the replacement Springfield seat. The Springfield replacements are stark white, while the original Springfield and Wise seats were an off white, (slight cream color). In addition, the Springfield replacement pads come in stark white and off-white. The off-white (slight cream color) are the closest to OEM for the Springfield seats. (Note however they will not fit the original Wise seats without some modification) Likewise, original Springfield seat cushions will perfectly fit the replacement Springfield seat, while original Wise cushions will not without modification.
