i have a 98 40 hp yamaha with p t/t "about 200lbs"on my 86 bw 13', but the motor is set lower in the water than my older motor,is it possible to install a cmc 5"vertical extension"14lbs" or manual jackplate with 5"set back "32lbs" so i can in shallow water, please give me some thoughts, thanks

If that is possible that could help me resolve the issue about only using
a 15" short shaft motor on my 1968 13'Whaler.
I never thought about using a jack plate so
that I could use a 20" shaft motor with power tilt and trim options. I'm sure somebody has done that we just need the feed back from the Whaler crowd.

Great question.

Larry Goltz and I have been working on a comprehensive article about jackplates, which will appear this weekend. I think you will find it interesting.

Also, look at CETACEA Page 28.

jimh thank you, that pictures in the cetecea really open up my eyes, that mean is possitble to put the jackplate on the 13', but i wonder what kind of the jackplate mr. Roberts using, and how much the weight of it? because his motor is lighter weight than mine,he really did a good jobs on his boats,i can't wait to see your aticle, thanks again william

Awares-

Sorry, I only knew where the picture was, it is on a 13 sport that has been for sale on boattraderonline for quite some time. You might give the guy (I think it is a dealer) a call and see if he can get a manufacturers name off the bracket.

Check out the new West Marine catalogue,They have a bracket made for installing a 20 ich motor on a 15in transom.I think it was 89.00

I think the engine mounting bracket you are seeing is one made by T&H Marine. It is not a "jackplate" in that there is no vertical adjustment. The setback is minimal, but it does look like just the solution for using a 20-inch shaft outboard on a boat with a 15-inch transom height.
