I just bought a 1988 70 hp Johnson. How do I test the VRO? I don't want to run the engine without verification that the VRO is working properly.

Also, does anyone manufacture a trim/tilt motor replacement cover. The motor operates fine but looks rusted.

Put oil in the gas tank at the recommended
ratio. Fill the VRO tank. Go run hard
for a while -- enough to use a reasonable
amount from the VRO tank. See if you used
it. Your plugs won't mind.

Whoa! It is absolutely Critical that you bleed the oil line of any air, right through to the pump, before you test. The major cause of VRO failure is air, or vacum, in the oil line. If there is air, the pump will not draw oil.
