Author Topic:   Suggestions: CPD 24' Justice power

Recently comparing the 22'Guardian vs. the 25' Guardian, I was impressed by the hull on the 24' Justice at the CPD facility.

I am now considering a 24' Justice. I would appreciate any input regarding single vs. twin power. I'll be using the boat for light offshore and mainly inshore trips, 2 to 4 people, little equipment. Top speed is not much of an issue for me, but would prefer the 40MPH range.

Thanks,
Paul

LHG's response to my post indicates that there is an earlier post on this topic. I have been searching to no avail. Does anyone know where the earlier post is?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul, I can't help you on finding the old post, but I do have some info on the 24 Justice. I would recommend twin 150's on that hull. It weighs about 3500# dry and holds 195 gallons of fuel. My 1997 24' outrage is the same hull and I have twin 150's that will push the boat in the upper 40's. My 1995 21' outrage has a single 225 which works well with that hull, but twins are the way to go with the 24.

I'm a big fan of the 24 ft. Outrage.
I've heard twin 200's will push her
over 50mph.Maybe put a couple of 150
EFI Mercs,or two 140 four stroke suzukis.
That boat holds some serious fuel, and the
swamp capacity is unreal.
It looks like the fish boxes are shorter
on the justice.I would add the bench seat
at the stern, and that little door that
swings up to fill in the open transom.

Thank you, Ed and Randy, for your responses. I understand that, with the 400HP maximum (and 1100# listed motor weight maximum), the boat does 55MPH. That's impressive!

It is my understanding that single 250HP power yields a top speed of 44MPH. I'll be running the boat lightly loaded with a bimini top. Are the twins necessary? I would prefer that the boat not be a "dog," "pig," or "snail" (whichever animal you choose!), either!

I'm interested, as well, in the boat's dryness and ability to track. You're input will be greatly appreciated. I'm also curious about the boat's drainage system, as I may have to keep the boat in the water (ouch!).

Thanks again,
Paul

Has anyone looked at Joseph Evans's 24' Outrage listed under "Marketplace"? It is a 1997 with twin 150HP Mercury engines.

Paul

P.S. Yeah, I know, lhg, it has MERCURY power! I thought you'd be delighted! :)

Paul - look at this way - maybe with Mercury power you could pick it up cheap!

lhg,

Thanks for suggesting this brand of power's impact on the purchase price. I'll have to take that into consideration.

Do I calculate the value based on the "per pound" method? If so, do I base the density on lead, coal, or gold?

I think it's BLACK-GOLD.

lgh,

BEAUTIFUL!! I'll keep you all informed. I'm awaiting a response from the owner.

lhg,

Your thoughts, please! What do you estimate the fuel consumption to be on the 24' Outrage powered by twin 150HP Offshore (carbureted) Merc's? Any other thoughts or concerns? Joe Evans (the owner of the 24' Outrage in NJ) provided me with a large number of detailed photos of his boat. It appears quite impressive!

Yeah, lhg, I know...they're BLACK GOLD!

Paul - sorry, I've been away. Based on my experience with my 200's on a 25, I would estimate mileage to be about 2.0/2.2 MPG with twin 150's at cruising speed of 3500 rpm.

I get about 1.75/2.00 mpg with the 200 EFI's (better mileage than the carbed versions) on the 25 Outrage.

Paul, just wondering... But did you ever consider the Justice 21 ??? IMHO, this is one of the best boats made by Whaler. Not to mention one of the better looking ones. A true deep V design.

Good Luck,
zpeed7

zspeed7,

I don't have much knowlege of the Justice 21's performance characteristics. Perhaps others would comment on their Outrage 21's.

Thanks,
Paul

The 24 Justice it is! Power will be either twin 200HP Yamaha HPDI's or a single 250HP Yamaha HPDI. I'm working on the power figures now.

Scratch the Justice, I'm going to consider the Guardian only. Details to follow!
