We have a 1989 [18?] Outrage--great boat. One of our twin Yamaha 70's just went south. We want to convert to a single Honda 135 or so. Any feedback, other type of engines work better? Thanks Chris and Richard |

Which Outrage, Chris? The Honda BF130 weighs about the same as your twin Yammys. I decide dto sell, rather than repower my 1982 18-OUTRAGE, but I came within a whisker of putting a Suzuki DF140 on it. The DF140 weighs about 100lb less than the Honda, and costs less. Good luck. Chris and Richard, Since you are boating twins, I think you should stick with twin engines. How about a pair of 70-90 HP 4-strokes on the transom of that OUTRAGE? I am presuming it is an 18-foot hull. The Outrage name badge has been used with hulls from 17 to 27 feet, but from your power set up I would guess yours is an 18-Outrage. |

I just finished the break in period on my 18 OR today. I repowered with the F115. With a full tank of gas and one person (which may last all summer - not sure why the dealer filled it up!!) I think top end will be 42-44 mph on GPS, I hit 40 before pulling the throttle back.
That is one SWEET engine!! Whatever you give up in hole shot and top end is more than compensated with economic smoke free quiet no 2 stroke oil operation!!! |

I think you would be making a huge mistake to trade your twins for a lower hp 4 stroke. There is a huge world of difference in a high powered 18 and an underpowered one. I have rode in both and an underpowered 18 is a totally different boat. I guess some people like a low performing high gas mileage boat, but I think if they took a ride in one with the maximum hp they would change thier mind in a hurry. What happened to your motor? Find a used 70 or better yet get a couple used 90s people are trading in for 4 strokes. Little Bear without twins? I hope not. I think you will be sorry if you do. Tom |

I saw a couple of new 70 yammie powerheads complete at a marine liquidation warehouse in fla. Send me an e-mail if interested and I will dig out the card. Buy both and change the impellers on your lower units and there you go! |

If you don't want to go through the terrible, terrible, terrible, awful process of re-powering, I take the boat. Dis I mention the process is terrible and expensive? ;-) |
