Hi.... I have just restored a 1970's whaler with a cut transom. The boat turned out great ...my problem is finding a used outboard motor for this boat. As I understand it I can only use a short shaft outboard...I live in the northeast any suggestions on who might sell these ? It seems I have tried everywhere in CT. Thanks

Try calling Stamford Boats & Motors. In my opinion, the perfect motor for the 13 is the Evinrude/Johnson 30 or 35 hp. These have been made and sold since 1976 and are still made and sold today. You need a 15" shaft.

There is a Honda 30 on Ebay and the bidding isn't frantic (yet).

I think that would be a wonderful combination.

CABELAS sells mail-order NISSAN outboards. They have a number of models available with 15-inch shafts in the 20-30 HP range.

Also, you can save money and weight by ordering these engines without electric start and without power trim and tilt.

Or you might find one of them used somewhere.
