I repowered my 27 Cuddy with 250 Evinrudes this winter after loving my 99' 150 Fichts on my 25 Outrage I just sold. I have had to come in on one motor four times in eight trips. First was a stator at 35 hours, next was a ecu on the port at 48 hours, third was a ecu on the starboard at 65 hours, now it is in the shop with another electrical problem at 85 hours. Check engine light blinks and it won't even try to start. I am really bummed and scared to take it out. Anyone else having these problems or just me???????

Were your Fichts built by OMC or by Bombardier. From your statement about repowering last winter, I am guessing they are not 2003 models built by Bombardier. Please let us know. Dave |

Right on, just in too much of a hurry to catch my own typo. Still would like to know what year the engines are? |

It's interesting that the problems with your outboards haven't been related to the basic design of the engines. I'm sorry to learn of your troubles, but they don't seem that they are ones that would be specific to the Fitch design. I've been hearing positive feedback about Bombardier customer support, here's a perfect opportunity for them to prove they deserve the reputation. Good luck, you deserve it, and please keep us posted. |

My motors are 01's. Shouldn't be much different then the 02's. They are still built on the bigger block. My problems are not with the FICHT technology (performs great and gets about 1.3 mph, great for this size boat: 27 with full tower, 310 gallons fuel, 30 gallons water, and whaler drive. Will run 40 knots). All my problems have been electrical or computer related. I was told today by the service tech that the motor tripped a code for unwanted fuel and shut down. Before the motor shut down it started to rev up without me giving any throttle. He is still checking it out, I will keep you posted. |

The 01's were built by OMC as they entered Bankruptcy. They are significantly different from the 02's and subsequent Bombardier engines. Have heard nothing but good about the Bombardier built motors. SOrry to hear of your problems, but do not blame Bombardier forthem. |

I hope these are under warranty; I think that the Evinrude warranty was 2 years at that time. If so it'll be a good test for Bombardier customer service, even if not an engineering/build quality issue for them directly. That's important too, so please continue to update the forum members. |

You might want to get in touch with BigZ as I believe he has those same motors on his 27. He would know what needs to be done with them to bring them up to speed, and once done, should be fine. They definitely were built by OMC in their last troubled days, as they rushed to crank out engine orders sold at discounts to the dealers. Bombardier has nothing good to say about the workmanship/tolerances on those engines. I hope your dealer was on the level with you when the sale was made. |

I put a pair of 2001 OMC built 225's on my 27 Whaler after my old Sea Drives tired out, mounted them on a Gil Drive bracket. I now have about 200 hours on them. My motors were delivered with in December of 2000 just prior to the Bankrupcy, the starboard motor was shipped with a defective ECU and would not run, it was not operable until April of 2001. As far as the engines, they have run flawlessly ever since, great power and economy. Both lower units have been replaced under warranty though, the port motor at about 90 hours and the starboard motor at 175 hours. Time will tell for the long term. Regards, Doug |

I solved the OMC problem. I just repowered my 27 with twin Yamaha 225 hp 4 strokes on an Armstrong bracket. Runs 47 MPH and gives 2.3mpg @25 mph. Love the boat now. The 225 SeaDrives had to go and they did! NO MORE OIL -NO MORE SMOKE - NO MORE STINK ! |
