My first post, I don't know if I could have done a search of the site to get this answered, but I just bought a 1987 Montauk with a 90 HP 2 stroke Merc. I have to get a new trailer and have a line on a bunk trailer which has no keel rollers as recommended by Whaler. The trailer dealer thinks I am crazy, the bunks should do the job, but he can add 2 keel rollers. The trailer is a leaf spring model and has 2 cross members where you could add the rollers.
I will not be trailering the vehicle very often, I keep it at a mooring and will use the trailer mainly for storage in the winter.
This is my first boat, any advice would be appreciated. You could add a third keel roller on the trailer tongue area. Also, any guidance on setting up the bunks and the winch stand?

Thanks for any help,

Don

Don:
I would refer to the reference section of the FORUM and go to the bottom of the page and look under Trailering Articles. They pretty much say it all.

But I would seriously consider putting the rollers in. Including the one further up on the tongue if it will actually give the keel additional support. As they say in the articles, the keel is the strongest part of the hull and should be supported from there. The bunks can add additional support, but are typically used for stabilizing the hull.

Can you place a roller at the end of the trailer. That will act as a protector when loading.

Good luck. Have fun! Read as much on the site as you can!I am new here as well and have spent the last few days just reading old posts, taking notes on which articles gave the info that related to my Whaler. AWESOME SITE!
