I have an 80s 18 Outrage. I wanted a kicker motor and bought a new 8hp Yamaha 4 stroke with electric start and electric tilt. I was suprised how heavy this engine is (for sure over a 100 lbs) and how it affected my outrage plane characterics and rough water ride. The rear weight causes much higher bow lift during getting up on plane and today in 2 foot chop found myself porposing more even when trimmed down all the way.
Very disappointing. Any similar experiences or solutions short of taking it off when not absoutely needed?

Hi, Only.

I suggest a hydrofoil on your main engine to move your center of contact aft. Another, more expensive option is trim tabs. I like the "Smart Tabs" if they can clear your kicker's leg.

It will lower the bow on hole shot and get her on plane at lower speeds. It should help the porpoising as well.
