What are your recommendations for a Stainless Steel prop, (pitch & diameter) for a Yamaha 40, 2 stroke. It is on a 99 13' GLS.

Thanks.

I am running a 1999 50HP Merc 4 stroke on my 1999 Montauk.
I started with a Merc 10 1/2 X 13 aluminum 3 blade and performance was good. Switched to a Merc Vengeance Stainless 10 1/2 X 13 3 blade and lost a bunch of performance. I am now running the Merc Trophy Sport Stainless 10 5/8 X 13 4 blade and the performance is a tad better than with the aluminum at top end but hole shot is much better.

Being a dealer I could experiment without any cost and as you can see a prop that should have worked didn't. The Vengeance may have worked if I had dropped to an 11 pitch but I talked to Merc and they suggested the Trophy Sport.

Work through your local dealer or prop shop and try for the option to test untill you find what works for you.

Thanks for your information. I know about the sometimes trial and error of "proping". Best to always try before you buy.

I hope additional responses will reduce the number of successful options.

Thanks again.

I gave up on aftermarket and bought a factory prop. Yamaha's web page has some prop testing information. They have some real world numbers for small edgewater boats. I used those numbers as a starting point. Hope this helps.

Good Luck
