My 1989 40 horse Yamaha keeps sneezing at idle. It usually stops running or sneezes and then gets back up to normal tone. It is worrying me, and I need to fix it. I have done some research, and have pinpointed the idle screw on the carb. If I pull each plug and listen, will I be able to find the offending carb? I really don't want to mess with all of the screws, being that I usually mess something else up in the process of fixing one problem. Thanks for the help.

Your running to lean, the carbs need to be adjusted by someone who knows what their doing.
If you know little to nothing, have a qualified tech do it because you can reall make some huge problems for yourself by adjusting it to run leaner then it already is.
Thats a good way to burn an engine up.

Correcting a "lean pop" is a simple procedure.

But if you don't feel comfortable adjusting the carbs you should take it to a tech.

Ask to watch so you'll be able to do it yourself should the need arise again.
