I am looking at buying a 99 Yamaha for my 22ft revenge. How do I make it work with the transom. People have mentioned using a jack plate but would getting a shorter shaft be cheaper? I want to make it work because the price of the engine is amazing.

Industry standards for engine shaft lengths are:

15" Short shaft
20" Long shaft
25" Extra Long shaft
30" Extra, Extra Long shaft.

Which are you asking about. The Revenge uses a 25" for single engine configuration,
