I am going south to look at a couple Outrages shortly.
Prior to the inspections, I'm putting together a comparison chart of sorts. In this chart, I'll have the trailer, outboard and hull notes
for handy reference on which items to pay attention to,
which items differ from package to package, etc...

Obviously, the motors are different models, so to compare
their relative merits, I would like to have base specifications
as they came off the line. A quick google search of NADA
and the manufacturer's websites turn up little to no
historical specs for previous model years.

I've seen multiple posters who seem to have this data
right at their finger tips when discussing performance issues.
Could be that these members have owned each model
and have the manual OR have read the data and retained it
OR have access to / knowledge of a location where this data is stored.

I'm looking for specifications on the following:

1989 Johnson 140 HP
1990 Yamaha 130 HP

If able, please provide website for the specs or
simply respond here with the numbers off the top o' yer head.
Relevant info would be dispacement, weight, gearing,
electrical system, etc...

Many thanks in advance.

You're going to get a superior oil injection system with the Yamaha. Watch out for an OMC 1989 VRO, as there have been large numbers of failures during those years.

A friend had a 1990 Yamaha 130 on his 18 Outrage, and it was a good performer, about 42 mph.

Thanks Larry, but that only sounds like
an OK performer.
No way do I want my guys in Lunds and Trackers
to beat me to the spots on Lake of the Woods...

Anyone with specifications for either of these motors
or resources online for same ?

The 140 Johnson is 1/2 the V8 which makes it a 2L engine. It also has the V6 gearcase which is strong as hell. If she has gone 15 years, I doubt the VRO was a bad one. This is also a Looper engine which is more fuel efficient than conventional cross flow models. Has a great charging system as well.

The 130 Yamaha is a 1.7L engine and also loop charged. Basically a copy of the V4 OMC with a mercury foot. The steering arms and shifter rods were a weak link on these so check carefully for rust. The shift rod can only be checked by dropping the foot. I would drop the foot if owner is cool with it. Major deal to replace either and not cheap. Look at trim motor too for rust.

The OMC will be faster than the Yamaha but both are great engines with tried and true designs.

Thanks Bigshot, that's good info.

By the by, off the top of your head?
