It's time to toss yet another motor off the back of our 1979 13' sport. This one was a 1987 30 hp Mariner, with which I've had no power complaints. I'm looking at a either a 40 hp 2 stroke or a 25 hp 4 stroke (both Yamahas). I've got a pretty good idea about the 40's performance and I would like to hear some testimonies from folks who have repowered with the 25 4 stroke. They cost the same and I wonder if I would enjoy the lighter, quieter, cleaner option, or if I would be longing for more power with four adults aboad.

Who out there tried the 25 hp 4 stroke?

The 25hp 4stroke BigFoot on my '03 130 sport works perfectly for my needs. That being fishing, one person, gear, bow mount trolling motor w/battery, cooler and five gallon bait bucket.

Jumps on plane easily with a 12P prop. Cruise at 4800 RPM at about 20 MPH GPS. WOT about 25 MPH at 5800 RPM.

If, however, I was thinking of running with four adults I would seriously consider a larger engine.

You may want to do a search; there are a number of threads on the subject. Here's a thread which addresses the topic: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001441.html

Good luck.
