I have an OUTRAGE 18 that has always had wavy hull sides. What is the cause of this?
It has never affected the performance of the boat.

I think the question you are asking is: why are the sides of your Outrage 18 wavy?
The answer is probably that you own a 1981 or 1982 Outrage 18 and those hulls suffered from shrinking foam that tended to suck the sides of the hull in a bit.
There is nothing structurally wrong, it's just unattractive. Some VERY severe examples of the "puckered" 18's were replaced under warranty in the 1980s.

I have a 1989 18 Outrage that has a "wavy" starboard rear side.

I purchased my 1978 Montauk in 1988. I noticed both sides of this boat were very wavy so the first thing I did was take it to the local Boston Whaler dealer to have it inspected.
They had a crew of 2 men come out and tap and knock all over the hull. They admitted the hull was wavy but there was nothing structually wrong with it. It was still under warranty at that time and I accepted their analysis.
Well, I owned the boat for 15 years after that without any problems whatsoever. Period. I recently sold the boat and it looked as good as the day I bought it. Well, better actually because of all the original things I added but the hull was still the same. I never had any problems with the hull, it just was wavy.
