Can any Montauk owners tell me what prop will work the best on my 98 montauk with 90 hp Merc. Just bought the boat last week had it out for it's first fishing trip, nice boat. The only thing is the former owner put a new raptor stainless prop. My top end speed is only about 35. I would think that a 17" boat with a 90 hp motor should be a little faster.

I have a 2 stroke 90 hp Mercury and run an aluminum Mercury 12.75" x 21" pitch prop on an '84 Montauk. Yesterday with two people and lots of gear we hit 42 mph (measured by gps, average of two runs - with and against the current).
You don't say if you have 2 or 4 stroke motor, and I don't know if it makes a difference due to gearing, but top speed should definitely be higher than 35 mph. Trim makes a huge difference though. Trimmed all the way in, I couldn't get higher than 34 mph +/-.

I ran a 20" pitch Quicksilver High Five (five blades/stainless) on a 1978 seventeen Newport with 1995/96 Merc 90 for several years. It would run (lightly loaded) at 46mph anytime and would hit right at 50mph on a cool day with a little chop on the water. Top rpm was 5600-5800 on a cool day as I recall... a little above the max rating of 5500 so didn't push it...Happy Whalin.. Spruce Creek Navy
