Considering an upgrade to a Pate F/T. Are these tanks more likely to cause condensation problems and require a water/fuel separator?

What is a F/T?

My guess would be FT means fiberglass tank. In that case the condensation would be less than any metal tank. Any marine gasoline tank should have a water separater and micron filter in the fuel line.

Pate tanks have a reputation of being high quality. To me that means strong, leak resistant, and good looking.

Read a post recently where a user stated that his marine dealer recommendeed a fuel/water separator whenever a Pate tank was installed. Perhaps the high accumulation of condensate in that particular tank was specific to his area of use.

I'd have guessed F/T = Fuel Tank.

I can't see any reason a Pate would have more condensation
than a metal tank, and some reasons why it might have less
(less thermal conductivity).

But I really don't think an
above deck tank on a regularly used boat needs a separator.
How's the water going to get in? Why don't you need one on
your car -- you drive it in the rain, right? The fuel system
on your car probably gets more water splashed on it than the
fuel system on your boat.

FWIW, I've had a Pate on my Montauk all along, for almost
seven years. No separator. No fuel in the water problems.
Used most every weekend, both days.

Still wondering what F/T is supposed to mean. Chopbuster--email me what you mean and I'll edit the thread to remove this little mystery of yours.
