I [considering for purchase a] 1977 REVENGE 19. I need a boat that can do it all. Will this boat/motor combination work well for skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, and fishing? Also I am considering this boat because I find the fuel consumption on my 1990 Yamaha 150-HP and 21-foot aluminum boat is [excessive]. Anyone with experience moving from an older two stroke to a new four stroke care to share? Thanks J

I have a 1974 Outrage 19 with a 4-stroke Suzuki 140. Top speed is about 40 mph. It has good hole shot and works fine as a ski boat. I get about 6 miles to the gallon cruising at 25-MPH (4200 RPM).

The manufacturers of four-stroke engines generally limit their claims for improved fuel economy to figures of 40-percent. Owners of new four-stroke engines tend to me more enthusiastic about the return on investment of their purchase, and often report fabulous improvements in fuel economy. As is often said, your mileage may vary.

I went from a 20hp Yamaha 2S to a 45hp Honda 4S on a larger boat and used half the fuel. I bought both outboards used from commercial fishermen and both were in great shape. On the Island quite a few mussel fishermen have moved up from 90hp to 130hp Hondas and found that their fuel consumpion improved.

I had a Honda 130 for over 500 hours and couldn't say enough good things about that motor. I ran it in two boats- one was a Moarch 19' glass cc and a Cabo 216 cuddy (heavy boat-4k lbs). I then upgraded my power and sold it to a buddy who has a Outrage 22 with a t-top, bait tank- loaded to the gills. He gets 3+ mpg at a 19kt cruise fully loaded, he is propped down for the weight. You will do better in the speed catagory, but will have the same mileage. They are soo smooth, quiet and have such a great powerband, you won't care. BTW- I have a friend with a 130 that has 2000 hours so far and only has had to change the water impeller as maintenance. Great motor- can run of 87 octane happly.

I cannot say enough good things about the 115/130 hondas. They are the most reliable motors I have ever run. I run a commercial 22ft with twin 115hp hondas and those motors have had nothing but a horrible beating their whole life and still run strong. (1500 hrs). I have had to run these engines at full throttle for 18 minutes straight in an emergency and they did not miss a beat. They are extremely heavy and not as fast but on a hull that can take the weight, they are amazing.
