The friday after Thanksgiving my daughter in her 1976 13 with 40hp evinrude VS me in the 1977 Montauk with 70hp evinrude.

We made several 1/2 mile runs and every time the 13 was up on plane and 8 to 10 boat lenghts ahead before I was planed off and at full speed.

As long as I stayed in her wake I could not catch her much less pass, but if I cut outside her wake as soon as I could I would slowly catch and pull even at the end of the run.

The only time I really won a race she trimmed up a little too much and as her boat got a little light I got past her.

Then to make my wife happy we ended races for the day.

The 13 only had about 200lbs of people and gear and fuel , to my 500 lbs of people, gear and fuel. So at Christmas I am cleaning out the console and ice chest and asking for a rematch.

You probably couldn't catch up in her wake because of the
bubbles. You water was less "solid" than hers.

I figured the disturbed water made my prop less efficient.

Give your daughter the 70 Rude for Christmas for her 13 footer, and get a Merc 150 inline 6 for your Montauk. and try again. May have to play with the props and setup.

Sounds good to me all but the black motor part and since I got my wife a new radar for the big boat for her Christmas present, am sure she would go along with your idea.

A friend of mine when hearing of my wifes present ask me if he should get his wife a new trolling motor. I told him if he made her paddle more maybe she would buy it for herself.
