I recently swapped the twin 70 Johnsons on my 76 Outrage (bananna boat) for a new 140 Suzuki four stroke. My cavitation plate is currently mounted 3/4" above the bottom of the hull, with the engine mounted three holes from the top. With a Suzuki aluminum prop (14 X 17), my top RPM is 6050 at 34.4mph. Cruising at 4500 RPM's, I'm doing 24 mph with the average mpg not quite 4 mpg.I'm curious as to whether or not I should raise the engine to another hole and/or change the prop. If I was to change the prop, I have noticed that some after market props are of a different diameter. My dealer expresses some trepidation regarding cavitation. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
