Has anyone put one of these on an older 13 footer? I dont want to raise my transom and this seems to be the ONLY engine in this configuration. I talked with my dealer and this model is a 40E-EFI if others are looking for a repower. Shay

216 pounds for the Mercury 4 stroke. The two stroke 40 Mercury is 204 pounds. The Johnson 40 two stroke is 195 pounds. The Yamaha 40 hp 2 stroke is 189 pounds and the Yamaha 40 hp 4 stroke is 182 pounds. I would prefer the Yamaha 4 stroke but I have been told that you can't have a 15 inch transom with remote steering. Does anyone know otherwise?

You have made a good choice of a 40HP 4-stroke, and the EFI technology makes it particularly attractive. As for your personal preference for Yamaha, in the case of the F-30, F-40, F-50 and F-60, those powerheads are supplied to Yamaha by Mercury, and for the F-30 and F-40 only in carbureted version. Mercury also offers carbureted versions in those two HP ranges, at lower cost, similar to the Yamaha versions. In the 40 HP range, the Mercury EFI engine offers 18 amp charging, and the Yamaha carb version offers 15 amp charging. In addition, the Mercury version of this engine is Smartcraft enabled, so you can install the Smartcraft gauges or integrated Navman sonarGPS, which besides all of the critical engine functions, furnishes an assortment of fuel flow calculations. |

You can have remote steering but I don't think you can use the tilt tube for the steering cable as there is not enough room due to the notch. You could add a standoff bracket to the transom to hold the cable. |
