Bob,Not sure what you are looking for, Ive had three Merc 100hps' first was on a 17' runabout 1989 engine, had boat for four years, it ran great, I like the oil tank in the engine cowling, I did have a problem at end with a fuel pump failure that scored two pistons, $1500 in damage, but I traded it in on a 1989 24' Searay Laguana with twin Sea Ray (mercury) 100hps , this boat was heavy, hull weight was 5500lbs. Motors both had Doel fins on and I loved that boat on the water, got up on plane real quick but not a rocket, I had that boat four years , never a problem, other then running across a rock jetty and knocking both motors to heck, spent $4500, but ran her for two years after that. I feel they are great engines, and the first one was my fault for trying to run in on that motor,it would idle and then run about 1 minute then die, the carbs were filling up, I ran it dry then repeated over and over, fuel pumps are so simple to replace, I have done it every two years when I do the water pumps since then. I would have to say I've spent eight years with Mercs in the salty and no real problems......Now I have an older boat 1987 Whaler with twin Yammie 70hps....one other thing I seemed to notice Mercury engines just seem to hold the paint better, most mercs you see look good after years, other brands seem to corrode faster....so there's an opinion!!.......Jack |

Bob, I've had three mercury 100hps and I'm pretty sure they are four cylinders, I can't believe I'm not 100% on that , must be because I just turned 48 last week, and the mind is going! I see lots of them around Delaware, the 100-115 are the same, so a lot of people might just go with the 115, if the weight is the same. They are tall engines and skinny, they work great in twin setups. The boat you are talking about is probbly rated for 90Hp I assume, doesn't look like the most practical boat for fishing and such, but I love the "miniture cigarette boat look!!!.....Jack |

i'll have to look at the pics again.this engine looks rather chunky and sqaure. It's definately not one of those merc "towers" which i believe were 6 cy's.Looks more like a mid 80's merc 75 i used to have.Either way, sounds like it will be a decent motor. The boat was rated for a 70,so it's a hair overpowered hehe |

The 100 is a four cylinder model, built on the same block as the 115 and 125 Mercs, and idles on 2 cylinders. The 100 was discontinued some time ago as it put out no more HP than the 3 cylinder 90. It was introduced in 1989. The later bucket cowling models keep the powerhead more water tight. |

BOB,Are you considering this motor for the Rage or for dad's 13? Either boat would be a great swamp runner with that motor because only the lower half of the prop would be in the water! |
