This was somewhat interesting as the boats were fit out indentically. Both have early 90s V6 Johnson 150 hp however my newly aquirred '77 19 has a GT 150.. what's a GT 150?. Both have bottom paint and a T top. I felt the old 19' Outrage would be good for diving because the freeboard seemed minimal. It's an illusion.. we tied them up together and the gunwales were the same with no people or gear. Here's the wierd part.. the length was identical too. My buddy had 3 people and dive gear and I had two in my boat. In the ICW I could run away from him at full throttle.. maybe 3 mph difference. Once we got out in the ocean everything changed. In 3 to 5ft seas I couldn't match his angle of attack or speed without pounding. We dove and on the way up, looking at the bottoms of the boats, the difference is obvious. My 19' looks like an overgrown Montauk where the '85 Outrage has deadrise. I have an 87' Outrage on Cape Cod and love it to death.. Which do I prefer? Classic 18' Outrage!.. That little boat never ceases to amaze me...
