I think I am going to buy the Garmin 188C. I'm looking for a dual fishfinder/GPS. Any thoughts or opinions on this model. I want color. What model do you have and do you like it. Would you buy it again.

Regards,

Troutman767

I bought thre Garmin 178C. Read the reviews and couldn't afford the 188C with all the other add ons i bought. I read that the 178C is an awesone GPS/chartplotter.

I got it for $609 From "www.getfeetwet.com". I'll let you know how it works when it is installed.

Good luck,

Alan

I have the 182C, the 188C's cousin. Highly recommend it. It's easy to use and has a nice bright display. While I would buy another 182C, I'd really like to have a 3010C.

If you intended use is for saltwater, I would highly recomend the blue chart chip for your area. I use the 176C GPS and it is great. I went 18-20 miles Thursday out in the SanJuan islands to go fishing (only die hard fishers would do this) in the heavy fog, maybe 50 yards visibilty and I always knew where I was and felt confident using it. I have my depth sounder right beside it, which is combo Loran/depth sounder. Not as good as radar but next best thing. I say that because we did come upon a large boat wake, throwing about 3 ft roll, never did see it or hear it, but sure made me slow down and use the horn until the water calmed back down. Got there alright and had good fishing, 13 & 21 # Chinook.
GO FOR IT!!!

Installed the 188 Form and Function. Love it. Had it for two years now no issues and works well. Need new charts after the Hurricane Clobbered us but that is a another issue.

I have the Garmin 178C and used it last fishing season. I am really pleased with the unit and I have not begun to use many of its additional features. I would certainly recommend it.

We have a 188C on the 20ft Outrage. It is easy to work and now that we have it , we wonder how we got along without the 188C. Great unit !

As far as I can tell, there is nothing about a classic Boston Whaler boat that would cause a problem for a Garmin GPS.
