Just acquired a 71 Outrage Hull # 299 with 1989 140 Johnson Looper with V4 gearcase. Does anyone have experience with this hp on a 21 and what can be expected? What prop would be recommended. The boat could not be sea trialed prior to purchase (steering issues). I have also a 1978 21 Revenge with 2002 VMAX HPDI 150 and previously owned a 1973 Outrage 21 with 1986 XP200 Evinrude so I know about V6 performance. Any input would be appreciated.

Chances are that motor has an OMC SSTII 17" pitch prop and will do 40-42 MPH.

I once had the same rig. Wide out trimmed way up and alone in the boat with no gear and little gas - I once saw 47mph GPS.

The motor was re-built and cylinders may have been bored a little larger than stock but doubt that had much to do with it.

Ll.

I have a 1971 21, and with a 1988 2.0 liter engine, can get about 47-48 out it. With a jackplate going on I think I will be able to squeeze 50 out of her.
