Guys
I just purchased a 1980 V-20 Outrage hull. Its is in good condition but does not have an engine. I am planning on using the boat for bay and outside the jetty fishing (South Texas). I like the redundancy of twins.

What would be the best horsepower combination? Any other opinions as to the engine brand and mounting would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I am in the market for anyone with the appropriate engines for sale.

I am new to whalers and twins to boot.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,
I just bought a 1988 Outrage 20. I looked at several V20 Outrages. All of the boats with twins had twin 90's. If you can cover the cost you might want to consider twin 90 HP Johnson eTecs. Good fuel economy, lighter weight, quiet, smoke free. Hope this helps.

I'd look at the new Evinrude E-Techs, or the Yamaha 90 2 stroke. Both are fairly light, and strong running 2 stokes that should behave nicely on that hull. If you search this forum, there's a lot of good information in various threads about the Yamaha. The E-Tech s still a bitt too new, though there are a couple of good threads from folks who have recently installed them. BillS

Thanks for the timely replys guys
Twin 90s sound like the ticket. I guess the trick now is to find them. Will the standard steering be ok or do I need to think about hydraulic? I appreciated your patience with these questions. I was not prepared for the deal on the hull and was behind the ball on my reasearch.

Hydraulic is the way to go with twins, much less feedback . Your engines probably won't be counter rotating, I have a 20' revenge with twins and hydraulic steering, it's great..............jack

I'm running 1987 70HP Yamahas, my boat was used in fresh water, motors look like new. I would say my boat being a Revenge is slightly underpowered, twin 90hp would be great, but I do love these tiny 226lb. motors and they are going to be on my transom for a long time I hope! I don't think your boat would be bad with twin 70s or 75s either. I hit a high of 35mph with my old engines, with full tank and four adults in boat. There is no weight savings between the E-tech 75 and 90 motors by the way........Jack
