Hello. I have head that installing a kicker on an Outrage may make the boat stern heavy and slower to get on plane.Do readers here believe addition of a hydrofoil on the main engine (225 hp) would improve planing performance with a kicker installed ... or would it add too much burden to the stern? Your reply is welcome. Thank you.

Man, thats a loaded question & your gonna get all sorts of replies. I have a 15 hp kicker on my 20 outrage & my engine is a 200 hp Evinrude FICHT & it takes all of 2 seconds to be on plane & your neck almost breaking. Does that say anything ? Sal |

I guess a lot depends on what size Outrage you have. |

Thanks for your replies, gentleman. When I get the 9.9 kicker fully installed and activated in a test run, I guess we'll find out -- and I will keep you informed. |

How much is that kicker going to weigh - maybe 100 lbs. So find a large child or a small woman, have them sit in one of the aft corners of the boat and see how it affects performance.Absent a suitable sized passenger, put a couple of old batteries, some sand bags, dumbbells or whatever else you can find that weighs what the kicker will and go try it out. Every boat is different, and this will tell you whether it will impact YOUR boat. |

I just installed a 9.9 kicker on my 1997 21 Outrage, main power Mercury 250 EFI.Kicker weight around 110 pounds. I have not noticed a difference in planing the boat, she pops right out of the hole, with minimum throttle. I don't have a hydrofoil installed. I see and tend to hear more about the smaller/lower horsepower boats using hydrofoils. Looking around the marina I don't see many installed on any type of boat. Rich |
