I have a 1984 Supersport with a 1984 Johnson 70. I am considering repowering. What are thoughts about "best" motor for this boat? twostroke/fourstroke? and what brand and why? Thanks for all replys

I just repowered my 15 sport with a new Yamaha 60 hp 4 stroke. I went with the fuel injected model. IMHO it is the best engine for this hull. The static trim is the same as the 70 hp merc that it has replaced. The drain holes in the stern are out of the water. At 237 pounds it is a great match. I am taking mine in for its 10 hour service on Monday. So far I am impressed with the performance. By myself it is a rocketship. When I add two of my friends(big) to the boat it is slower to get out of the hole and slightly less on the top end. After I have the service done I will get GPS numbers for you. NO smoke, starts every time on the first try. Sounds like a Toyota when it starts. I talked with numerous forum members about this before I took the plunge and I am glad I listened. If I had to rate my happiness on a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to say it is a 10 for sure. I am blown away at the performance and the miser-like fuel consumption. I went fishing with my friend yesterday. We went 25 miles out and trolled all day. I only burned about 6 gallons. Only you can decide what is best for you, listen to the people on this forum and make the best decision for your needs. Good luck.

The 15-foot Boston Whaler hull is very light. The boat will be sensitive to transom weight. I would look for an engine of moderate weight.

If you wish to retain the performance of your 70-HP two-stroke motor, the best choice would be an another 70-HP two-stroke. If you want better fuel economy and less noise and smoke, go with a low-emission two-stroke such as the Evinrude E-TEC.
