I am thinking of replacing my 1984 30hp Johnson with a 30hp 4stroke Honda. My kids are really too big to ski or wakeboard behind this boat so it wil be used as a runabout until the grandkids come...has anyone else put this on a older 13'. I don't mind going to a 40hp but I think it is too much weight for the transom of this old whaler. any thoughts?

I just put a 2 stroke 40 on my '78 with the idea of skiing behind it (I weigh 225). I have not tried it yet, but based on the one test run I have had the chance to take I am pretty sure it will pull me up on salom. I am going to try it out this weekend.

The 20-inch 50 hp Honda at 203 pounds is what you want. Perfect for skiing and everything else.

I've rigged three 2005 40HP Yamahas on 13 footers this year. I personally think its the best set up for all-around use.

Hi David,

How fast does your 13 go with the honda on it? I almost went with a 50 and ironically I think my 40 yamaha is more than enough. I will probably try to clock it this weekend.

See you then.

The Yamaha 25hp four stroke with power trim and tilt weights 156 pounds and is a nice match for the 13. The power T&T makes it easy to trim for different loads and sea conditions. I have had mine for five years and am well satisfied with its performance.

We have two 13s one with a 40 evinrude 2 stroke the other with a 25 yamaha 4 stroke . One is fast enough the other is faster, one is good on gas the other is great. Both work well. That ought to help you pick.

We put a Yamaha 25 4s (power tilt / trim) on our 13. I was really looking for a 40 but we god a good deal on a 25. It's not too heavy for the boat so it sits right in the water. I'm happy with it and it goes plenty fast enough for that size boat. I don't know if it will pull a skier out of the water yet but for fishing / tubing and cruising it works very well.\

my 2cents.
