Hi guys, I went from NO Whaler to TWO whaler in one day. Purchased a 1997 21 Outrage with single Mercury 225 XL EFI. Also purchased the older 1982 22' Revenge that was on EBay with NO engine. The Revenge is going to go through extensive restoration, up to and including replacing the floor. It has some cosmetic needs as well need for some serious cleaning and painting. The boat came without an engine. Between the two boats, I knew I would be buying an engine eventually. I'm thinking why not move the 225 Mercury to the Revenge and get a brand new engine for the Outrage> After all she will be the one taking me offshore fishing, and would rather have brand new engine I can rely on. I also don't think I will hand on to the Revenge after it has been all fixed up and hate the thought of selling it with a brand new engine. My question(s) to you guys as follows. I want to err on the side of being over powered rather than under powered.
Thanks Gentlemen. TURK |

I have a 1997 21 Outrage also. The single 225 horsepower is a great match for the Outrage. Maximum horsepower is 300. My boat is the 25 inch, or XL transom also. My transom is notched for a single XL shaft motor, I don't think you can put twins on the boat (without transom modification or brackets). The 30 inch transom 21 Outrage can accommodate the twins. I thought about twins for my repower last year, then found out the boat would not accommodate them. I repowered with a 2003 Mercury 250EFI two stroke. I have put around 110 hours on it and I have not has a single problem with it. Performance is excellent, and price was less than the four strokes. There are some good deals on the Mercury EFI engines. I don't think there is anything wrong with moving the motor from one to another. The 225 will work well with both boats. I would put the new motor on the boat I planned on using the most. Rich |

A REVENGE 22 with a 225-HP EFI should be about a 40-42 MPH boat. They are a good match. |

Thanks, I had not thought it through. The transom is indeed notched for a single. Besides I got rather terse, or no responses to my email inquiries regarding what it would cost to repower the boat with twin 150 E-TECHS. I was set straight by a couple of dealers in no uncertain terms that they are not and will NOT be available until FALL, and they will not give me a price unless I first give them a deposit??? I got a nice lecture on how they are in demand and how once the available motors are gone I would have to pay a premium etc. very dissapointing.. Maybe I will inquire about a single 225 or a 250 E-Tech. Before I do, I should check in here. I don;t want to get scolded again.. Are the 225s and the 250s out yet? I wouldn't want to impose on the Evin "RUDE" dealers to nswer that question. Seem they are very busy.... TURK |

Jim - a 22 Revenge notched transom with a Merc 225 EFI will be a LOT faster than 40-42, actually more like 50 mph. JimP here has same boat, with a 225 Optimax running a 19" Mirage and 1.76 gears, and he gets 48-49 out of her, and better than 3.0 MPG at cruise. And a 225 EFI is a stronger engine than the Optimax (according to Robert Moore), more like 242 HP. |
