My 2004 Montauk 90 hp 4 stroke came with an 18 pitch Vengeance stainless steel prop.

I have 2 stroke merc. and it is an aluminum prop. I'm not sure of the size, but you think that 18" is the right size?

I can't be much help to you with first hand experience since its 90 2-stroke but I recall some lengthy prop discussions on that motor perhaps 12-18 months ago. If memory serves me, 2-stroke 90 guys were able to run higher pitched props than guys with either the 90 or 115 4-strokes. You may well be able to easily push a Laser-II in 20 pitch so I'd do a search and read through those discussions prior to buying the 18 Vengeance.

I tried 3 props on my Montauk 170 with 90 4 stroke:
(model 2003)

1. Vengeance 18" => rpm 6200 thats to much.(with 3 pers.
on board)
2. Trophy plus 19" => 5300-5400 rpm. Very difficult
handling when trimmed al the way up at WOT, and not
smooth running at low rpm.
3. Laser II 20" 5700-5800 rpm the perfect prop for this
engine !! (mounted in third hole)
Top speed with 1 pers. 44,4 mph, with 3 pers. 42 mph.

Regards,

Imko

With the 2-stroke 90, you would want a 20" Laser II. You might contact "Marc" in the Outrage thread, to see if he has one to sell, as he is using one, and it is too much pitch for his application. I would mount enigne in third (middle) set of mounting holes. My guess is that your aluminum is a 21" pitch.

The Laser II will greatly improve your performance and smoothness of ride.
