What is the maximum engine weight allowed on a 1998 OUTRAGE 17 II? I was thinking about purchasing and re-powering an Outrage 17 II. The recommended power is 115-HP with a maximum of 150-HP. I want to put a Yamaha 115-HP on that weighs 402-lbs; the 150-HP weighs 466-lbs.

Thanks in advanced.
A.V.

There is no maximum engine weight for a 1998 17' Outrage II. I am sure it would handle the F150 just fine.

As a general observation, Whaler has never produced a boat that had both a maximum engine weight rating and a 150 HP maximum where the maximum engine weight rating was less than 510 pounds.

Boston Whaler did not begin publishing max engine weight specifications until the last couple of years. The max HP on that year boat (I owned one prior to buying my Conquest) was 150 HP and the engine du jour of that period was the Opti 150. It's dry weight was 431 lbs, so with an oil tank in the stern I think the 4 stroke would be close. The only issue would be that your side scuppers would probably be wet when you are in the boat (not much of an problem).

Alex, I'm just north of you with the same situation. I'd be very interested in your results if you go with the four stroke.

prm1177 Are you saying with your 135 Opti you had water coming in the side scuppers too?

I have a 135 Opti, and no water comes in the side scuppers, unless you stand right next to one, and even then, it just fills the little well next to it, but none on the deck. My flappers could use replacing though.
