I bought a Florida boat that was lift kept and flushed after every use. I am bringing it to the brackish water of the Upper Chesapeake Bay and leaving the boat moored in water.

Options:

1. Flush only after season, that is, let it [corrode]. They are old motors, anyway;

2. Flush with earmuff attachment after each use. This is not too practical or effective in the water;

3. Hook up something similar to later models with a flushing port, even maybe thru the water pressure gauge ports.

The Yamaha engines are 1989 200-HP V6.

Remember, Yamaha's must flush with the dual earmuff attachment that feed water from both sides, not just one side as most muffs do.

Wow. Sal, is that true? I also have a 1989 Yamaha 200 and I've always flushed it with a single earmuff attachment. The earmuff attachement came with the boat when I bought it and I guess I wrongly assumed it was OK.

I have 1392 Yamaha 40-HP and hadn't heard [about the recommendation to use a dual earmuff adapter] before. I use a single earmuff adapter. As well, I remove the screens from both sides of the lower unit before I attach the muffs. Please advise more

Thanks.

Unless they changed it in the last five years, that is the [recommendation].
You need to buy the dual earmuffs at the Yamaha dealer or West Marine carries them.

So what do you think of option #3? The same 2.6 block is still used now but has a flushing port. Where does it feed in?

Bquick, what do you mean by feed in? If it has a flushing port that is where you screw the end of the hose on. It feeds through the water circulating system of the engine.

[Changed TOPIC; was "89 Yamas flushing" which seemed like an article about an airport bathroom in South America.]

I am sure he's asking where in the cooling system the flushing adapter hose is connected in the engine.

No Sal...these earlier motors don't have a flushing port. I would like to drill and tap and add one. It uses the same old 2.6 block so I was thinking if someone has a later motor they could see were it taps in.
