My 190 Nantucket powered by a 150XL takes about 25 MPH to get up on plane in calm waters. I was toying with the idea to install a hydrofoil fin on the outboard to help my boat level out at a slower speed.

Info, recommendations and guidance from my forum friends will be greatly appreciated.

Try a 17" pitch Mercury Revolution 4 or Offshore/Vensura propeller. This will reduce your minimum planing speed.

I have never been a fan of hydrofoils on outboards. Boston Whaler now offers trim tabs as an option on the 190 Outrage. This would probably bee a better idea although a bit more expensive. You may want to try a 4 blade prop. This will also allow slower planning speeds.

While I do not yet have tabs nor have I been on a Nantucket with tabs my friends with a very similar Trophy installed tabs and it reduced their planning speed down to rediculous slow speeds and I have confirmed that. Most vee hulled boats need tabs to help on the slow end when that is important.

My boat will plane slower than your indicating though it does begin to mush and require throttle adjustment below 20 MPH. At 25 we are on solid plane. In fact, 24ish is a good slow, on plane, cruise speed for us getting right at 6 MPG. Hmmmm.

Trim the engine in all the way at slow speeds.

Yes, I have been told that prop will help. I think though that tabs would be a better investment to begin with, they are on my get list. I think they will help trim the boat at slow speeds and help compensate for people and dogs not staying where I put them.
