Hello All. I am looking for your experiences. I am bringing in my 60-HP bigfoot for service. I heard about a true synthetic gearcase lubricant. My marine guy says that Mercury doesn't have a true synthetic available. He says they use the high performance lube because it has 70-percent protection on water intrusion. What would you suggest? Thanks--Mark

Use manufacture's stuff - only. I try and squeeze a dollar into a 20 all the time. I finally took the advice from this forum from all the owners and spend the extra bucks. My Yamaha runs great - Yamalube ONLY and Yamaha lower unit lube.

best

Please explain how you measure "protection on water intrusion" and what your metric of "70-percent" means. How does that compare to other lubricants?

There is a 100% synthetic gear lube, and it is a 75W90 vs. 75W80. My 2004 Volvo Duoprop calls for only fully synthetic 75W90 gear lube. It is also the same lubricant that my 2004 Suburban specs for the rear differential gears.

However, my Dauntless has a 1998 40hp Merc, and the manual does not specify anything but "gearcase lubricant"

I run the Quicksilver high perf in all my engines...great stuff. Just replaced the foot lube in my 05 Suzuki with it. Don't believe the mixing myth either, you can go from one to the other because it is a blend.

I ran Merc Hi Perf gear oil in my OMC King Cobra outdrive for years, and it was handling 425hp from a 454.

It will work well with your little Bigfoot

K-Y gets sticky & she'll typically seize up!
