This is probably a stupid question, but......... How fast can you go with the Bimini up on an 18 Outrage?

With no wind? WOT.

I'd try to keep the combined speed of boat and wind to less than 50 MPH or so.

The instructions I got with a just purchased bimini from Overtons (Westland brand) said no more than 40 MPH.

What year is the whaler? after 1991 boats weighed 700lbs more and with max rated 150hp 40 mph is about top end anyways. pre-1991 boats are a lighter, therefore faster. I have had both. my old whaler 18 was 1986 w/ 150 and was a screamer. I had a bimini top and it was fine. My current whaler is a 1992 outrage 19 II which had a 150 and was not as quick. top end was about 37-38mph. I was running into a headwind wot a few months ago and the center sleeve tore. My bimini is original mills canvas and was a little tattered. I'm sure you will be fine even over 40mph, just dont leave it up when your trailering the boat. by the way I just replaced that old carbed 150 on my outrage with a 200 etec. My bimini wont slow me down..

Depends on SS or aluminum frame really. I could run 60+ with my SS bimini on my Baja. My aluminum frame ones start to sag after about 40mph which causes them to catch air more.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that it does not have to be folded everytime I want to change location.

Do any of you have a T top on an 18? Hod did you mount it? Is there any change in it's behavior?
