Are all the differences [between a Evinrude 1987 200-HP compared to an 1989 Evinrude 175-HP] in the power head? Are the midsection and lower unit the same [on a Evinrude 1987 200-HP compared to a 1989 Evinrude 175-HP]? Can I put my 200-HP powerhead on a 175-HP lower unit? What parts are interchangeable [between an Evinrude 1987 200-HP vs an Evinrude 1989 175-HP]? Which are not?

Thanks,

Mike

If both motor use the same block, there is probably not much difference between them other than the carburetors.

The 200 probably uses a 3.3 liter block, and the 175 uses a 2.6 liter block, totally different.

Jim you have a 3.3 liter engine, is the midsection the same as the one from the smaller 2.6's? I think it is

The blocks are different. The 1989 175 was built on a cross-flow block of about 2.6L. The 1987 200 was built on loop-charged block of about 2.7L. In 1988 or 1989, the bore was increased on the 2.7L block to make it displace 3L.

ditto..if you had a 1986 200 I think they are the same 2.6L block. Your midsections etc will probably swap though. A simple check at the dealer for the "base gasket" number will reveal if they use the same pattern or gasket to mount the powerhead.
