[Seeks information on] putting a 200-HP on a 1973 Outrage19. We're looking at an early 90's 200-HP Yamaha to re-power our 1973 Outrage 19 restoration project. [I] know it's rated for it, but it seems like a lot of motor for a 19-foot boat.Any anecdotes would be greatly appreciated! Thanks--filth

I did try putting an old 225 Ficht on my Outrage 19 and I found it produced just too much torque for the transom.I don't know what the Yamaha weighs, and yes it is certainly a lot of power, but I have heard of others successfully using 200-HP on this hull. |

We've got a 140 Suzuki four stroke EFI on our 1976 Revenge, a heavier but similar boat, and that seems to be plenty of power for the lumpy Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. All slicked up 'Strike3' runs up around 38 mph wide open with a couple of us aboard, tons of gear, and four fuel tanks (two saddle, one main, one for the kicker) maybe 2/3 full. Our boat is fairly quick on plane (a little slower than my Outrage 18/115 4/s) even with the cap/cuddy forward. I think that 200 will make your banana Outrage scream...it would probably be too much motor for me, especially fuel-economy-wise.Tony |

I have a 1973 19 Outrage Lo-Pro that I just finished a complete refrub on. It has a 1989 Yamaha 175hp 2stroke engine.I ran the boat this weekend and it is scary fast. (all speeds verified by gps) 3000 rpms 32mph 4000 rpms 43mph 5300 rpms 54mph Didn't have the guts to give it full throttle or trim it all the way out, need to put the thermostats back in before I give it a wide open throttle run in cold water! The boat has no jack plate, no cavitation plate and a refurb'd 19pitch stainless steel prop. Impressive? I think so. |

My 175 OMC would hit 50 which is scary on that boat. The main problem I had was range with only a 40gal tank. With a 200 you can only get 4 hours max at cruise, more like 3. mY 225 burned 13gph at 4k so even at 3k you would have to be burning 9-10gph. |

Yep 54mph, I could not believe it. I agree with the fuel burn issue on only 40 gallons. My boat is a perfect candidate for a new Yamaha F150, and that's whats going on the boat as soon as I run across a good deal. The F150 will give me 5-7mpg and at worst 3-4 at WOT, that's the range I'm looking for. |

I get about 6mpg with my 115 Suzuki 4s at cruise(4k). I would have loved a 150/175 Zuki but am very happy with my 115. |

My sister and brother in law have my old '77 19' outrage with an '89 Johnson GT 150 with a 20" stainless prop. Bottom paint, and T-top and she runs 47 mph. It would seem a small V6 or even a strong 4 cyl. is plenty!Chris |

My new Suzuki DF150 looks huge on my Outrage 21; the 4 stroke 150hp motors look to be about the size of a 225hp 2 stroke. They are BIG motors. I think a Yamaha 150 four stroke would be too much weight & size for a lo-pro 19...I would be thinking a 115 or perhpas a Suzuki 140 if I were going the 4 stroke route on that boat. My 2 cents. |

and i thought i was a chicken for not wanting to go full throttle w/ my etec 150 on my 18, and you want to put 200 on a 19?!- holy crap!- more power to ya pal; too bad after you're done w/ that beautiful restoration, no one on the water will be able to see the fruits of your labor-you'll be like a bottle rocket out there- a blur!LOL |
