Gentlemen: We have a 1983 17 Whaler with a 1983 90-HP Johnson motor. Our propeller is a little dinged up and needs to be refinished. It may be better to simply replace the prop. What pitch and type of prop should we buy? Where should we buy it and how much should we pay? Thanks for your help. Nushlie |

I had the same set up for quite a few years. An aluminum 13.25 x 17 was a good all around performer. The 13.25 x 19 was a little to big, slow out of the hole, but fast, fast, fast at 4900 RPM. The 13.25 x 15 was fast out of the hole, but slow at the top end, and allowed the engine to exceed 5500 RPM. The Stainless Steel BRP Viper 13 7/8 x 17 is a great match. Here's one (used) for $150.00 http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/boa/284186484.html I currently run a Stiletto Advantage I 13.25 x 15, available on this forum from Tom Clark for $240.00. The Stilettos run smaller pitch due to aggressive cupping and swept blades, and work best when the engine is raised a considerable amount. |

Buy Jim Dunlap's Viper. It is a very good deal: |
