I am planning to get a new Mercury TROPHY SPORT four-blade propeller for my 150 SPORT with a 60-HP [unknown acronym] Mercury. Current propeller is a 10 x 13 three-blade and WOT engine speed is 5,250-ROM at 33-MPH. I am at an altitude of about 4,000 feet ASL. Boat is for fishing and cruising, no tubing or skiing. Should I go up or down in pitch? Or stay the same? Any thoughts appreciated. Would keep the existing aluminum propeller for a spare. Steve

What is the maximum engine speed for your motor? There may not be exact correlation in the pitch between your current aluminum three-blade propeller and a stainless steel four-blade propeller. I suspect that if you went with the same pitch, the engine could not turn the four-blade propeller as fast as it did the three-blade. In what pitch range is the TROPHY SPORT available?

Thanks for the reply, jimh. The motor is 5,500-RPM max., Merc 2003 1.64 13 spline. I can go with 12-, 13-, 14-, or 15-inch pitch. |
