I will be taking a look at a 1984 Frontier and was wondering what the minimum HP would be for this hull.
The specs state 115 hp. I guess that would be enough to get it on plane. What would be feasible for daily use?
I would like to see 30 MPH min...

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

Unlike the recreational 25 foot models, all of which which have a 115 HP minimum, the Frontier model had a 140 HP recommended minimum when it was introduced and in later years the recommendation was increased to 150 HP.

I presume this is because of the heavier weight of this model.

As a practical matter, I do not think a single 150 HP outboard would be very satisfactory but it certainly would be capable of moving a Frontier at over 30 MPH, it would just be working its heart out doing so.

Point of reference: My Revenge 25 Walk Through can do almost 35 MPH with only one of its old 2 liter 150 outboards operating...with too much pitch in the prop and being offset from the keel's centerline.

Thanks Tom.

In you opinion what would be the ideal motor for this hull in the event I decide to purchase it?

Jason,

There is no "ideal". What is it you want out of your power? What are your goals?

I think a pair of 150 HP outboards would be very nice.

Single engine.... Twins are too cost prohibitive.

I was thinking along the lines of 200 hp E-TEC..... I can get that installed for about $16K

Not enough?

At work, we have a 25' 1989 BW Fronter with the full front cabin (like a Challenger, but set further forward). She also has a Whaler Drive. She is powered by a pair of 115Hp Yamaha 4stroke engines. She does 38kts with 140 gallons of fuel, and one person aboard.

It takes quite a bit to get that 25' hull with a WD option and the forward mounted cabin on plane. She doesn't seem to stay on plane at much below 23mph...

Thanks....
Sounds like a 225 would give me what I am looking for.
