Hey everyone, I just started up the 2002 Johnson 150-HP two-stroke engine. [What is the normal idle speed for the 2002 Johnson 150-HP two-stroke?]I had a tachometer installed. It reads 1,300-RPM at idle. Is this normal? I think the [engine idle speed should] be in the 500 to 700-RPM range like my father's 2001 Yamaha HPDI. Thanks, Boatlover15

Check your owner's manual for the recommended engine speed at idle. The usual two-stroke engine idle speed is around 800-RPM.Check the calibration of the tachometer. Most two-stroke outboard motor tachometers have a calibration adjustment. |

Your idle engine speed should be 800 rpms. If the tach you had installed isn't an OMC or Bombardier tach, it could drive you nuts. I've had trouble calibrating Teleflex tachs on OMC - Bombardier engines. On the back of the tach there is an adjustment, & the little needle [ pointer ] needs to point to the number 6 on your particular engine. Sounds like it's on 5 or another number. If it's not an OEM tach from the company that made that engine, you may not be able to get it right. Sal

Thanks guys, I'm gonna check to see what the needle is set on. I dont have the engine owner's manual unfortunately. The tach is an OMC/ Bombardier tach that Monahan's Marine intstalled for me this past winter. I dont think it has to do with the tach, last summer I felt as though the engine was shifting to hard into gear, and I could not tell since I didnt have a tach at the time. Thanks for the help, Boatlover15. |
