More thoughts and questions on this...In the article I found, you mentioned getting to run this Montauk with the Yamaha and bracket for some time. What were your impressions vs. one with no bracket?
My interest isn't really about higher top speed. Mostly, it would be nice at mid throttle and speeds to not have to apply as much negative trim to calm down the tendancy to porpoise. It seems that the more weight I have in the boat, the greater this tendancy becomes.
Also, regarding the photo of two Montauks that illustrates how much lower in the stern the bracketed boat sits at rest. It's worth noting that, as mentioned in the article, the new Yamaha is 360+ pounds. This is an issue I have with all new motors, especially the four strokes. When I bought my package (1995 Montauk, 1995 Mercury 125hp), the inline four two stroke Mercury was the heaviest in it's class at, I think, 348 pounds. Now it would be the lightest by a good margin, even among two stroke models.
The forward boat in the photo has an OMC 70 or 90hp motor that would be probably 70 pounds or more lighter. My boat sits very low in the stern as well, though not quite as much as the Montauk with the bracket. Just as in your photo, when my boat has been tied near other Montauks I've noticed now much lower it sits in the water, relative to the same boat with lighter 70-90hp power.
