[What are the] differences between the 2005 [Suzuki DF70] and the 2007 [Suzuki DF70]? I am thinking of repowering a 1986 Montauk 17 with a Suzuki DF70. The dealer is telling me he might [have] a 2005 in the crate [at a lower price] than the 2007. Any comments? TY

I just saved a lot of money on a new but last year's model of a Nissan 9.8 hp four-stroke kicker. The price was especially good because Nissan changed the exterior design and color of the motor this year, and the dealer obviously thought he'd be stuck with the older model. Just make sure the warranty period begins with the date of sale, which I think is automatic with a new outboard. Good luck. If resale value is a concern, maybe consider the fact that a motor's hours of use and how well it's been maintained are more important than the model year of the thing, at least for many folks.Tony |

Shouldn't be any differences. I just got one and if you have the chance to save [money] go for it. Engine has been sitting for a while but other than that no hours on it and it should run and perform like an 2007. Also just make sure the warrantee starts when the engine is installed and ask for [a six year warranty]. |

I suspect that the dealer would probably be able to tell you about the difference between a 2005 Suzuki DF70 and a 2007 Suzuki DF70. The dealer should have information about service bulletins which affect the older motor, if there were any issued. Also, if he has the two motors you could compare them side by side and try to deduce any differences yourself. |

I had a 1999 and it is ientical to a 2007. This does not mean there were no electrical or internal upgrades but the rest looks the same. If more than say $800 savings, go with the 2005, with identical warranty. |

As far as I know, 2005 and 2007 models are mechanically indentical, and if there are any differences, those differences are in the engine's electrical parts. For example, the EMM [firmware] might be different--I don't belive that it is. I don't know if the 2005 model supports NMEA2000 like the 2007 models do. Great engine anyway, a bit heavy but that does not matter if your boat can handle the weight of the engine. |

That is a good point about the NMEA-2000 network support. That might make a difference if one were planning on having a NMEA-2000 network of instruments on the boat. |
