I drained the gasoline from the platic bowl [of a RACOR fuel filter], and I found only 100-percent clear gasoline. Do you folks always change the fuel filter every year?

If you have not found water I don't think it is a problem. I personnely change mine every other year. These filters have a big capacity. |

Racor does make a vacuum guage that can be attached to your filter. (this is a measurement of restriction, if you see an increase in vacuum that is a good indicator that your filter is getting clogged and should be replaced). As long as you do not see an increase in vacuum, then your filter is performing fine and your fuel system is in good shape. But if you do not monitor restriction, then I would recommend changing the element prior to the beginning of each season to be on the safe side. |

If it is a 10 micron I would change twice a season or more, depending on how much use. The ethanol fuel will loosen up deposits in your fuel tank. If the filter cemes restricted a lean condition can result. I had that happen causing cylinder head overheat alarm. |
