Topic: Verado Service at 100-Hours

I've just purchased a new Boston Whaler Ventura with a 2005 225-HP Verado. The SmartCraft gauges show the motor has 125 hours on it. How do I tell whether the previous owner has had the 100 hour service completed? Is there any easy way?

I do not believe that there is any data value displayed in the SmartCraft gauge system which reflects the performance of any service on the motor. To discover if the motor has been serviced, your best bet is to contact the previous owner or ask the dealer who might have performed the service. I don't think the engine can tell you. |

I might be wrong but from what I remember reading the dealer records the service with the serial # in the Merc database. So any dealer should be able to tell you! |

Why not share that info here? I'm sure it would be appreciated by Verado owners. |

What is the real story on obtaining the software for the laptop? Can you walk into a Mercury dealer and purchase it at retail? |

Merc dealers have to initialize the factory software every 30 days on the Merc dealer website or it becomes unusable to them also and they would then have to go through a re-registering procedure to use it again. At the National Marine Service Expo a few weeks ago, CDI Electronics (formerly Rapair, Inc.) introduced their own version of software and interface cable for late model Mercurys. It is for the all motors with the Motorola 555 processor, 2001 and later Optimax, Verado and EFI MerCruiser. Any individual can buy it. |

Paddy, A certified verado dealer can hook up the computer and tell you if the service was done. Some dealers prior to selling will do the service also. Jordi |

Wow!!It seems the topic has hit a nerve. The whole things went right by me. Having said that I will have my Verado dealer give me the answer to the 100 question. Thanks...Paddy |

Paddy--It has been an interesting discussion.I was quite certain that the Verado engine did not reveal information about its service history via the SmartCraft gauge. I have never seen any mention of a data display like that in the published information about SmartCraft. As for the authorized Mercury Verado servicing dealer and his OEM service software, I am not surprised that it can access more data stored in the engine than the SmartCraft gauges can. That would be typical. Also, I found it very interesting that the software has a 30-day reset built into it. That is one way to keep access to the engine management software under tight control. The software has to check in with the mother ship in order to stay alive. Who would have guesed that! I hope it's good news about that 100-hour service having already been done. And, I wonder, what is the cost for a typical Verado 100-hour recommended service procedure? |

Man, oh man, all this editing. You guys are keeping me from my beauty sleep. Please, again, let's keep the topic focused on the boats and motors, not the people who own them. |

Jim asks a good question. What is the typical cost for the 100 hours service for a Varedo 225hp? It would be great to know. |

If you change the oils and filter yourself, My 100 hour checks are about $150-200 per engine....have them do the whole shebang and a fair price is $400 or so... |

Glen -I'm forgetting - does the VERADO require that same service at 100 Hour intervals - or the first 100 hours, then every 300 hours or some other (longer) interval? |

every 100 hours for basic stuff....every 300 for water pump and plugs ....np valve adj ever on a verado ...as all parts are the same ,parts are cheap...filter is 9, top belt is 35...plugs are iridium so they are 9 apiece...but mine go 500 hrs or so.... |
