Should I install the Baystar or the Seastar hydraulic steering system on my 18 Outrage with a Johnson 150HP? I know that the Baystar is rated for up to 150HP.

Well, You guys would know I'd chime in here. Baystar will be fine for your Yamaha 150. HC4645 Cylinder will fit your motor. Drop me a line as Jim doesn't want us talking prices in the performance section. If you want Seastar, we can do that too. |

Sometimes, I think I stay up to late. What year Johnson? NOT YAMAHA! |

What is the difference in the two systems? is one only for motors over 150 hp? Thanks Tom 17 Montauk w/96 Yamaha 90 2 Stroke |

For all who are interested, Baystar is for 150 HP or less, regardless of engine brand or year. It is a slightly scaled down version of Seastar, but works beautifully on those motors. Seastar is for the larger motors (HP/Weight) and also allows you to run twins with a tie bar. If anyone would care to see the Baystar or Seastar installation manuals, email me amd I'll send a copy in PDF for so you can make your own decision. I have sold many a Baystar/Seastar system to this wonderful bunch, and I am very proud to be associated with them. Brian Chilton, Len Simpson, Jim McPadden, Henry (aka the Yiddil), Binkie, my good friend Seth, let me tell you, you can't find a better bunch of boat lovers. Whaler lovers, I should say! Email me if you want prices. I have a lot of respect for Jim Hebert. |

I've installed a Seastar system with a rear mounted 2.4cc displacement helm on my Outrage with an Optimax 150HP couldn't be happier.Never knew what I was missing ! |

I've got the BayStar on mine and a 150 E-TEC. I'll never go back. Baystar is more than adequate. The additional expense for the Seastar is not necessary. |

Jay,the Baystar system provided a warning for its use with the 150HP Optimax, this may be associated with the amount of power the Mercury really puts out.I always lean towards the side of safety. |

Oh,as for the additional expense, I purchased and had the system installed with the upgraded 2.4 helm for less than the cost of a retail Baystar system. |

Odd Jim, my packaging said nothing of the sort. |

Jay, Take note, Jim said "for less than the RETAIL" cost of a Baystar. The key word here is "retail". |

OOPS!, Goddam, there I go not reading what you posted. Jay, yes I did go through the Baystar manual today, cover to cover, didn't see the caveat that Jim warned about, as far as 150 Optis. I am going to research tomorrow and let you all know. Sorry, misunderstood, my bad... |
